Carey, a former top fashion model who stands at nearly 5'10", was popular with American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. In 1979 in 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists named the father of her Scientist of the Year. Carey's father was a geologist who traveled across the globe as part of his career. Modeling began part time when she was a student at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent of the Ford model Agency in New York. After moving to France in the summer of 1999, where she lived in Paris, Bordeaux and New York She decided to go back to New York and continue her studies.
